Credit Cards in India 2016-2017
As at 31st December 2017, the number of credit cards in India stood at 35.50 million, an increase of 7.18 million or 25.35% compares to 28.32 million credit card in the same period 2016.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2017, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 842.47 million, an increase of 78.04 million or 10.21% compares to 764.43 million debit card in the same period 2016.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2017, there are 1,355.43 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 367.93 million or 37.26% compares to 987.50 million in 2016.
The total credit card payments for 2017 is INR4,335.74 billions in value, a significant increase of INR1,324.08 billions or 43.97% compares to INR3,011.66 billions in 2016.
The 25.35% increase in number of credit cards help the growth of credit cards payment volume and value in India, if compared to the growth in the previous years.
In the meantime, there are 3,292.65 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2017, a significant increase of 1,417.07 million or 75.55% compares to 1,875.58 million in 2016.
The total debit card payments for 2017 is INR4,606.18 billions in value, an increase of INR2,102.24 billions or 83.96% compares to INR2,503.94 billions in 2016.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 10.21% growth in number of debit cards.

India Credit Card Quarterly Statistics 2017
As at 31st March 2017, there are 29.84 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.52 million or 5.37% compares to 28.32 million as at 31st December 2016.
332.97 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(2nd Quarter 2017), an increase of 50.32% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
The 316.69 millions transactions generating INR953.77 billions in value, an increase of 46.01% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
As at 30th June 2017, there are 31.48 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.64 million or 5.50% compares to 29.84 million as at 31st March 2017.
332.97 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(2nd Quarter 2017), an increase of 45.16% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
The 332.97 millions transactions generating INR1,055.28 billions in value, an increase of 44.56% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
For the 6 months ended 30th June 2017, 649.66 millions transactions recorded, generating INR2,009.05 billions in value.
As at 30th September 2017, there are 33.34 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.86 million or 5.91% compares to 31.48 million as at 30th June 2017.
340.66 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(3rd Quarter 2017), an increase of 40.09% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
The 340.66 millions transactions generating INR1,085.94 billions in value, an increase of 44.46% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
For the 9 months ended 30th September 2017, 990.32 millions transactions recorded, generating INR3,094.99 billions in value.
As at 31st December 2017, there are 35.50 million credit cards in India, an increase of 2.16 million or 6.48% compares to 33.34 million as at 30th September 2017.
365.11 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(4th Quarter 2017), an increase of 20.00% compares to the same quarter a year ago.

Credit Cards in India 2015-2016
As at 31st December 2016, the number of credit cards in India stood at 28.32 million, an increase of 5.57 million or 24.48% compares to 22.75 million credit card in the same period 2015.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2016, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 764.43 million, a significant increase of 121.14 million or 18.85% compares to 643.19 million debit card in the same period 2015.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2016, there are 987.50 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 242.67 million or 32.58% compares to 744.83 million in 2015.
The total credit card payments for 2016 is INR3,011.66 billions in value, a significant increase of INR714.36 billions or 31.10% compares to INR2,297.3 billions in 2015.
The 24.48% increase in number of credit cards help the growth of credit cards payment volume and value in India, if compared to the growth in the previous years.
In the meantime, there are 1,875.58 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2016, a significant increase of 811.31 million or 76.23% compares to 1,064.27 million in 2015.
The total debit card payments for 2016 is INR2,503.94 billions in value, an increase of INR1,022.16 billions or 68.98% compares to INR1,481.78 billions in 2015.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 32.58% growth in number of debit cards.

As at 31st March 2016, there are 24.51 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.76 million or 7.74% compares to 22.75 million as at 31st December 2015.
210.68 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(1st Quarter 2016), an increase of 28.59% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
The 210.68 millions transactions generating INR653.22 billions in value, an increase of 27.21% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
As at 30th June 2016, there are 25.54 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.03 million or 4.20% compares to 24.51 million as at 31st March 2016.
229.38 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(2nd Quarter 2016), an increase of 26.74% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
The 229.38 millions transactions generating INR724.96 billions in value, an increase of 32.53% compares to the same quarter a year ago.
For the 6 months ended 30th June 2016, 440.06 millions transactions recorded, generating INR1,378.18 billions in value.
As at 30th September 2016, there are 26.86 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.32 million or 5.17% compares to 25.54 million as at 30th June 2016.
243.18 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(3rd Quarter 2016), an increase of 25.26% compares to the same quarter a year ago.

For the 9 months ended 30th September 2016, 683.24 millions transactions recorded, generating INR2,129.88 billions in value.

Credit Cards in India 2014-2015
As at 31st December 2015, the number of credit cards in India stood at 22.75 million, an increase of 2.39 million or 11.74% compares to 20.36 million credit card in the same period 2014.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2015, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 643.19 million, a significant increase of 143.11 million or 28.62% compares to 500.08 million debit card in the same period 2014.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2015, there are 744.83 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 155.95 million or 26.48% compares to 588.88 million in 2014.
The total credit card payments for 2015 is INR2,297.3 billions in value, a significant increase of INR469.57 billions or 25.69% compares to INR1,827.73 billions in 2014.
The 11.74% increase in number of credit cards does not directly affect the growth of credit cards payment volume and value in India, if compared to the growth in the previous years.
In the meantime, there are 1,064.27 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2015, a significant increase of 314.94 million or 42.03% compares to 749.33 million in 2014.
The total debit card payments for 2015 is INR1,481.78 billions in value, an increase of INR326.07 billions or 28.21% compares to INR1,155.71 billions in 2014.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 28.62% growth in number of debit cards.

India Credit Card Quarterly Statistics 2015
As at 31st March 2015, there are 21.11 million credit cards in India, an increase of 0.75 million or 3.68% compares to 20.36 million as at 31st December 2014.
163.84 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(1st Quarter 2015), generating INR513.5 billions in value.
As at 30th June 2015, there are 21.64 million credit cards in India, an increase of 1.28 million or 6.29% in 6 months period.
180.98 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(2nd Quarter 2015), generating INR547.03 billions in value.
For the six months ended 30th June 2015, a total of 344.82 millions transactions is recorded with total value of INR1,060.53 billions.
As at 30th September 2015, there are 22.45 million credit cards in India, an increase of 2.09 million or 10.27% in 9 months period.
194.14 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(3rd Quarter 2015), generating INR592.73 billions in value.
For the nine months ended 30th September 2015, a total of 538.96 millions transactions is recorded with total value of INR1,653.26 billions.
As at 31st December 2015, there are 22.75 million credit cards in India, an increase of 2.39 million or 11.74% in 12 months period.
205.87 millions transactions is recorded by credit cards during the 3 months period(4th Quarter 2015), generating INR644.04 billions in value.
For the twelve months ended 31st December 2015, a total of 744.83 millions transactions is recorded with total value of INR2,297.3 billions.
Credit Cards in India 2013-2014
As at 31st December 2014, the number of credit cards in India stood at 20.36 million, an increase of 1.67 million or 8.94% compares to 18.69 million credit card in the same period 2013.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2014, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 500.08 million, a significant increase of 127.57 million or 34.25% compares to 372.51 million debit card in the same period 2013.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2014, there are 588.88 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 103.98 million or 21.44% compares to 484.90 million in 2013.
The total credit card payments for 2014 is INR1,827.73 billions in value, a significant increase of INR359.55 billions or 24.49% compares to INR1,468.18 billions in 2013.
The 8.94% increase in number of credit cards does not directly affect the growth of credit cards payment volume and value in India, if compared to the growth in the previous years.
In the meantime, there are 749.33 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2014, an increase of 160.58 million or 27.27% compares to 588.75 million in 2013.
The total debit card payments for 2014 is INR1,155.71 billions in value, an increase of INR238.13 billions or 25.95% compares to INR917.58 billions in 2013.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 34.25% growth in number of debit cards.

Credit Cards in India 2012-2013
As at 31st December 2013, the number of credit cards in India stood at 18.69 million, a decrease of 0.18 million or 0.95% compares to 18.87 million credit card in the same period 2012.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2013, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 372.51 million, a significant increase of 58.07 million or 18.47% compares to 314.44 million debit card in the same period 2012.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2013, there are 484.90 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 106.13 million or 28.02% compares to 378.77 million in 2012.
The total credit card payments for 2013 is INR1,468.18 billions in value, a significant increase of INR291.59 billions or 24.78% compares to INR1,176.59 billions in 2012.
The 0.95% decrease in number of credit cards does not affect the growth of credit cards payment volume and value in India.
In the meantime, there are 588.75 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2013, an increase of 161.85 million or 37.91% compares to 426.90 million in 2012.
The total debit card payments for 2013 is INR917.58 billions in value, an increase of INR242.33 billions or 35.89% compares to INR675.25 billions in 2012.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 18.47% growth in number of debit cards.

Credit Cards in India 2011-2012
As at 31st December 2012, the number of credit cards in India stood at 18.87 million, an increase of 1.20 million or 6.79% compares to 17.67 million credit card in the same period 2011.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2012, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 314.44 million, a significant increase of 50.64 million or 19.20% compares to 263.80 million debit card in the same period 2011.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2012, there are 378.77 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 73.19 million or 23.95% compares to 305.58 million in 2011.
The total credit card payments for 2012 is INR1,176.59 billions in value, a significant increase of INR259.11 billions or 28.24% compares to INR917.48 billions in 2011.
The 6.79% increase in number of credit cards has helped the growth of credit cards payment volume and value.
In the meantime, there are 426.90 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2012, an increase of 124.64 million or 41.24% compares to 302.26 million in 2011.
The total debit card payments for 2012 is INR675.25 billions in value, an increase of INR177.63 billions or 35.70% compares to INR497.62 billions in 2011.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 19.20% growth in number of debit cards.

Credit Cards in India 2010-2011
As at 31st December 2011, the number of credit cards in India has continue to slide to 17.67 million, but with a slower decrease of 0.43 million or 2.38% compares to 18.10 million credit card in the same period 2010.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2011, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 263.80 million, a significant increase of 47.761 million or 22.11% compares to 216.039 million debit card in the same period 2010.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2011, there are 305.58 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a significant increase of 50.53 million or 19.81% compares to 255.05 million in 2010.
The total credit card payments for 2011 is INR917.48 billions in value, a significant increase of INR202.86 billions or 28.39% compares to INR714.62 billions in 2010.
Despite the continuous decrease in number of credit card in India, it does not affect the total credit cards payments transaction volume and value.
In the meantime, there are 302.268 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2011, an increase of 83.235 million or 38.00% compares to 219.033 million in 2010.
The total debit card payments for 2011 is Rs 49761.27 crore in value, an increase of Rs 14315.41 crore or 40.39% compares to Rs 35445.86 crore in 2010.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 22.11% growth in number of debit cards.

Credit Cards in India 2009-2010
As at 31st December 2010, the number of credit cards in India has continue to slide to 18.102 million, a significant decrease of 2.543 million or 12.32% compares to 20.645 million credit card in the same period 2009.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2010, the number of debit cards in India has continue to climb to 216.039 million, a significant increase of 45.471 million or 26.66% compares to 170.568 million debit card in the same period 2009.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2010, there are 255.032 million of credit card payment transactions in India, an increase of 17.724 million or 7.47% compares to 237.308 million in 2009.
The total credit card payments for 2010 is Rs 71461.50 crore in value, a significant increase of Rs 10921.19 crore or 18.04% compares to Rs 60540.31 crore in 2009.
Despite the continuous decrease in number of credit card in India, it does not affect the total credit cards payments transaction volume and value.
In the meantime, there are 219.033 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2010, an increase of 60.357 million or 38.04% compares to 158.676 million in 2009.
The total debit card payments for 2010 is Rs 35445.86 crore in value, an increase of Rs 11332.33 crore or 47% compares to Rs 24113.53 crore in 2009.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value in India is in accordance with the 26.66% growth in number of debit cards.

Credit Cards in India 2008-2009
As at 31st December 2009, there are 20.645 million credit cards in India, a significant decrease of 5.508 million or 21.06% compares to 26.153 million in the same period 2008.
As at 30th April 2010, the number of credit cards in India fluctuate further to 19.288 million. Nonetheless, this is an increase of 1.005 million or 5.5% compares to 18.283 million in 31st March 2010.
In the meantime, as at 31st December 2009, there are 170.568 million debit cards in India, a significant increase of 43.035 million or 33.74% compares to 127.533 million in the same period 2008.
As at 30th April 2010, the number of debit cards has continue to climb to a record high of 184.791 million in India. This is a contrast compares to credit card which has continue to decline
from an all time high of 28.312 million in April 2008.
However, the decline in number of credit cards is expected as banks in India turned cautious due to an Indian Cards Council report that nonpayment on credit cards had risen to 20 percent
between April 2008 and March 2009, compared with a rate of 6 percent the previous year.
Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2009, there are 237.308 million of credit card payment transactions in India, a decrease of 21.879 million or 8.44% compares to 259.187 million in 2008.
The total credit card payments for 2009 is Rs 60540.31 crore in value, a decrease of Rs 5972.62 crore or 8.98% compares to Rs 66512.93 crore in 2008.
The decrease in credit card payments volume and value is in accordance with the reduction in number of credit cards. However, the credit card payments volume and value has decrease
by about 9% even though the number of credit cards has reduced by 21%.
In the meantime, there are 158.676 million of debit card payment transactions in India for 2009, an increase of 40.623 million or 34.41% compares to 118.053 million in 2008.
The total debit card payments for 2009 is Rs 24113.53 crore in value, an increase of Rs 6929.11 crore or 40.32% compares to Rs 17184.42 crore in 2008.
The significant increase in debit card payments volume and value is in accordance with the growth in number of debit cards.
