Credit Card Eligibility in Singapore

Monetary Authority of Singapore, or better known as MAS is the central bank of Singapore. MAS administers the various statutes pertaining to money, banking, insurance, securities and the financial sector in general, including currency issuance.

To apply for a credit card in Singapore, a minimum annual income S$30,000 p.a. is required for Singaporean or Permanent Residents. Whereas for self-employed or foreigners working in Singapore, a higher minimum annual income of S$36,000 p.a. is required.

To be a supplementary cardholder in Singapore, you need be 18 years old and above.

Singapore Quarterly Credit Card Statistics 2022

As of 31st March 2022, there are 5,429,178 of principal cardholders and 1,058,042 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.13% or 6,874 compares to 5,436,052 cardholders as at 31st December 2021. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.02% or 10,944 compares to 1,068,986 cardholders as at 31st December 2021. Total card billings for 1st Quarter 2022 is S$16,914.9 million with rollover balance of S$5,304.3 million, and S$53.3 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the first quarter of 2022 stood at 4.1%.

Total card billings for 2nd Quarter 2022 is S$19,439.1 million with rollover balance of S$5,527.9 million, and S$47.2 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the second quarter of 2022 stood at 3.5%.
For the six months ended 30th June 2022, S$36,354.0 million recorded for total card billings with S$100.5 million bad debts are written off in the period.

Credit cards in Singapore 2020-2021

In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 5,436,052 of main cardholders and 1,068,986 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2021, compares to 5,494,132 of main cardholders and 1,137,805 of supplementary cardholders as at December 2020.
This shown the number of main cardholders has decreased by 58,080 or 1.06% in 12 months period. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 68,819 or 6.05% in 12 months period.

Total card billings for 2021 is S$64.63 billion with rollover balance of S$5.31 billion, compares to S$57.87 billion billings with rollover balance of S$5.40 billion in 2020. Overall, the total billing increased by 11.68%, and rollover balance decreased by 1.67% compared to 15.76% decreased a year ago.
In 2021, the bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card has decreased by 40.88% or S$162.2 million to S$234.6 million, compares to S$396.8 million in 2020. Charge-off rate in year 2021 has decreased to 4.4% from 6.1% in year 2020.

Singapore Quarterly Credit Card Statistics 2021

As of 31st March 2021, there are 5,475,243 of principal cardholders and 1,119,228 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.34% or 18,889 compares to 5,494,132 cardholders as at 31st December 2020. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.63% or 18,577 compares to 1,137,805 cardholders as at 31st December 2020. Total card billings for 1st Quarter 2021 is S$15,467.9 million with rollover balance of S$5,264.3 million, and S$64.5 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the first quarter of 2021 stood at 5.0%.

As of 30th June 2021, there are 5,457,649 of principal cardholders and 1,096,268 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.32% or 17,594 compares to 5,475,243 cardholders as at 31st March 2021. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 2.05% or 22,960 compares to 1,119,228 cardholders as at 31st March 2021. Total card billings for 2nd Quarter 2021 is S$15,340.7 million with rollover balance of S$5,148.9 million, and S$51.6 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the second quarter of 2021 stood at 4.1%.
For the six months ended 30th June 2021, S$30,808.6 million recorded for total card billings with S$116.1 million bad debts are written off in the period.

As of 30th September 2021, there are 5,433,411 of principal cardholders and 1,083,799 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.44% or 24,238 compares to 5,457,649 cardholders as at 30th June 2021. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.14% or 12,469 compares to 1,096,268 cardholders as at 30th June 2021. Total card billings for 3rd Quarter 2021 is S$15,962.9 million with rollover balance of S$5,200.4 million, and S$61.0 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the third quarter of 2021 stood at 4.8%.
For the nine months ended 30th September 2021, S$46,771.5 million recorded for total card billings with S$177.1 million bad debts are written off in the period.

As of 31st December 2021, there are 5,436,052 of principal cardholders and 1,068,986 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders increased by 0.05% or 2,641 compares to 5,433,411 cardholders as at 30th September 2021. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.37% or 14,813 compares to 1,083,799 cardholders as at 30th September 2021.   • As at 31 January 2023, there are 56,648,102 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 35,932,268 cards are active. A total of 901,005 cards is issued in the month of January 2023. The total credit cards spending for January 2023 in Taiwan is NT$317.45 billion, made up of NT$316.17 billion in purchases and NT$1.28 billion in cash advance.

    As at 31 January 2023, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$11.039989 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$103.303 billions), a decrease of NT$22.064 billions or 0.20% compares to NT$11.062053 trillions as at 31 December 2022.

    As at 31 December 2021, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.02% to 52,629,916, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2021 in Taiwan is NT$3.108 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2021, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$10.419858 trillions, an increase of 9.00% in 12 months period.



  • As at 30 June 2022, there are 17,108,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 50,000 or 0.29% in 3 months period(compares to 17,058,000 as at 31 March 2022). The rollover amount stood at HKD$21,666 millions as at 30 June 2022.

    As at 30 June 2022, there are 19,628,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 2.42% compares to a quarter ago. 217,713,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q2 2022, generating HKD$177.151 billions.
    For the 6 months ended 31 June 2022, 437,864,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$349.189 billions.
    As at 31 December 2021, there are 19,049,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 1.65% compares to a year ago. 921,110,000 credit card transactions recorded in 2021, generating HKD$721.694 billions.

    As at 30 September 2022, outstanding professional and private loans in Hong Kong stood at HKD$2,693,941 millions, an increase of 0.20% compares to HKD$2,688,636 millions a quarter ago. Credit card advances stood at HKD$123,989 millions as at 30 September 2022, an increase of 2.70% compares to a quarter ago.

    As at 31 December 2021, total outstanding professional and private loans in Hong Kong stood at HKD$2,671,107 millions, an increase of 8.97% compares to HKD$2,451,199 millions the same period a year ago. Credit card advances stood at HKD$127,463 millions as at 31 December 2021, an increase of 7.68% compares to a year ago.



  • As at 31 March 2021, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 8,772,368 for main cardholders and 890,011 for supplementary cardholders, with 48.4 million transactions amounting to MYR$12.2 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2020, there are 489.2 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$127.0 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR34,564.057 millions as at 31 March 2021, a decrease of 0.13% compares to previous month. MYR12,875.864 millions credit card loans disbursed in March 2021.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in Malaysia decrease by 3.02% to 9,806,560. And the total credit cards spending for 2020 in Malaysia has been affected by the covid-19 pandemic, fallen by 11.68% to MYR$127.0 billions, out of 489.3 millions transactions.

    As at 31 March 2021, personal loans in Malaysia stood at MYR103,547.800 millions, an increase of 0.16% compares to previous month. MYR2,833.356 millions personal loans are disbursed in March 2021.

    As at 31 December 2020, personal loans in Malaysia stood at MYR103,408.656 millions a decrease of 6.20% compares to the same period a year ago. MYR31,763.728 millions personal loans are disbursed in 2020.



  • As at 30 November 2021, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 25,080,997, with 69.192 millions transactions amounting to THB173 billions recorded in November 2021.

    As at 31 October 2021, there are 14,121,778 outstanding personal loan account in Thailand, with a total outstanding value of THB510,132 millions(an increase of 2.03% compares to THB499,984 millions as at 30 September 2020).

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 2.52% to 24,603,787. And the total credit cards spending for 2020 in Thailand ahs fallen by 17.82% to THB1,835 billions.

    As at 31 December 2020, total personal loan outstanding value has decreased by 5.67% to THB429,904 millions compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 September 2021, there are 121 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 3rd quarter 2021, 81,949,750 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND139,126 billions.

    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2021, 292,232,032 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND491,846 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 12.12% or 12 millions to 111 millions. 362,222,382 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2020, generating VND619,189 billions.



  • As at 30 November 2021, there are 67.6 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for November 2021 in India is INR892.17 billions, out of 201.1 millions transactions.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2021, 971.4 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR3,736.85 billions.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in India increase by 9.16% to 60.40 million. The total credit cards spending for 2020 in India down by 14.05% to INR6,125.49 billions, with 14.06% decrease in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 March 2020, outstanding personal loans in India stood at INR25,536 billion, an increase of 14.99% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 May 2022, there are 16,588,263 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for May 2022 in Indonesia is IDR25,644 billions, out of 28.360 millions transactions(27.960 millions recorded for purchases with IDR25,036 billions in value and 400,214 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR608 billions in value).
    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2021, a total of 202,889,387 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR173,691,694 millions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2020, a total of 274,682,432 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR238,903,608 millions.

    As at 31 May 2022, outstanding personal loan in Indonesia stood at IDR1,001,452 billions, a decrease of 0.42% compares to IDR1,005,636 billions as at 30 April 2022.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 1.23% to 17,487,057. The total credit cards transactions for 2019 in Indonesia up by 9.03% to IDR342,682,828 millions, with 3.21% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2016, the number of credit cards in Philippines stood at 8,046,867, with 44.61 millions transactions amounting to PHP$169.543 billions recorded for the 3 months ended 31 March 2016.

    As at 30 June 2016, credit card receivables stood at PHP$224.576 billions in Philippines, an increase of 3.75% compares to PHP$216.454 billions as at 31 March 2016.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Philippines stood at 8,043,465. A total of 137.86 millions credit card payment transactions recorded in 2015, amounted to PHP$516.769 billions.

    As at 31 December 2015, credit card receivables increase by 9.05% to PHP$222.314 billions in 12 months period.



  • As at 31 March 2022, there are 119,076,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 108,713,000 personal credit cards and 10,363,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of March 2022, 1,335,121,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW75.417792 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 110,976,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.64% while corporate credit card increase by 5.49%. A total of KRW778.35 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2019, out of 14.85 billions transactions.



  • For the month of March 2022, JPY6.77 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY6.65 trillion for purchases and JPY0.12 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2021, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 0.80% to 295.31 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2020 increased by 1.40% to JPY74.46 trillions, compares to 2019.



  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in China increase by 16.73% to 685.892 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2018 in China up by 35.09% to CNY92,759 billions, with 67.73% increase in number of card transactions.

Credit cards in Singapore 2019-2020

In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 5,494,132 of main cardholders and 1,137,805 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2020, compares to 5,554,446 of main cardholders and 1,224,995 of supplementary cardholders as at December 2019.
This shown the number of main cardholders has decreased by 60,314 or 1.09% in 12 months period. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 87,190 or 7.12% in 12 months period.

Total card billings for 2020 is S$57.87 billion with rollover balance of S$5.40 billion, compares to S$67.70 billion billings with rollover balance of S$6.41 billion in 2019. Overall, the total billing decreased by 14.52%, and rollover balance decreased by 15.76% compared to 0.62% decreased a year ago.
In 2020, the bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card has increased by 8.74% or S$31.9 million to S$396.8 million, compares to S$364.9 million in 2019. Charge-off rate in year 2020 has decreased to 6.1% from 5.8% in year 2019.


Quarterly Statistics 2020

As of 31st March 2020, there are 5,585,472 of principal cardholders and 1,203,817 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders increased by 0.56% or 31,026 compares to 5,554,446 cardholders as at 31st December 2019. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.73% or 21,178 compares to 1,224,995 cardholders as at 31st December 2019. Total card billings for 1st Quarter 2020 is S$16,464.0 million with rollover balance of S$6,080.6 million, and S$99.9 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the first quarter of 2020 stood at 6.7%.

As of 30th June 2020, there are 5,581,540 of principal cardholders and 1,184,315 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.07% or 3,932 compares to 5,585,472 cardholders as at 31st March 2020. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.62% or 19,502 compares to 1,203,817 cardholders as at 31st March 2020. Total card billings for 2nd Quarter 2020 is S$10,618.7 million with rollover balance of S$5,535.5 million, and S$97.7 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the second quarter of 2020 stood at 7.3%.
For the six months ended 30th June 2020, S$27,082.7 million recorded for total card billings with S$197.6 million bad debts are written off in the period.

As of 30th September 2020, there are 5,535,685 of principal cardholders and 1,166,800 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.82% or 45,855 compares to 5,581,540 cardholders as at 30th June 2020. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.48% or 17,515 compares to 1,184,315 cardholders as at 30th June 2020. Total card billings for 3rd Quarter 2020 is S$14,576.9 million with rollover balance of S$5,388.9 million, and S$118.2 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the third quarter of 2020 stood at 9.1%.
For the nine months ended 30th September 2020, S$41,659.6 million recorded for total card billings with S$315.8 million bad debts are written off in the period.

As of 31st December 2020, there are 5,494,132 of principal cardholders and 1,137,805 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders decreased by 0.75% or 41,553 compares to 5,535,685 cardholders as at 30th September 2020. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 2.49% or 28,995 compares to 1,166,800 cardholders as at 30th September 2020. Total card billings for 4th Quarter 2020 is S$16,213.3 million with rollover balance of S$5,402.5 million, and S$80.6 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Credit cards in Singapore 2018-2019

In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 5,554,446 of main cardholders and 1,224,995 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2019, compares to 5,338,237 of main cardholders and 1,242,809 of supplementary cardholders as at December 2018.
This shown the number of main cardholders has increased by 216,209 or 4.05% in 12 months period. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 17,814 or 1.43% in 12 months period.<

Total card billings for 2019 is S$67.70 billion with rollover balance of S$6.41 billion, compares to S$63.09 billion billings with rollover balance of S$6.23 billion in 2018. Overall, the total billing increased by 7.31%, and rollover balance increased by 2.89% compared to 0.62% decreased a year ago.
In 2019, the bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card has decreased by 0.44% or S$1.6 million to S$364.9 million, compares to S$366.5 million in 2018. Charge-off rate in year 2019 has decreased to 5.8% from 6.0% in year 2018.

Charge-off rate for the first quarter of 2019 stood at 6.1%.

As of 30th June 2019, there are 5,440,251 of principal cardholders and 1,240,771 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders increased by 1.21% or 65,134 compares to 5,375,117 cardholders as at 31st March 2019. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders increased by 0.20% or 2,525 compares to 1,238,246 cardholders as at 31st March 2019. Total card billings for 2nd Quarter 2019 is S$16,603.6 million with rollover balance of S$6,207.2 million, and S$86.7 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Charge-off rate for the second quarter of 2019 stood at 5.7%.
For the six months ended 30th June 2019, S$32,415.1 million recorded for total card billings with S$177.9 million bad debts are written off in the period.

As of 30th September 2019, there are 5,483,932 of principal cardholders and 1,226,382 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore. The number of principal cardholders increased by 0.80% or 43,681 compares to 5,440,251 cardholders as at 30th June 2019. Whereas the number of supplementary local cardholders decreased by 1.16% or 14,389 compares to 1,240,771 cardholders as at 30th June 2019. Total card billings for 3rd Quarter 2019 is S$17,016.7 million with rollover balance of S$6,216.3 million, and S$89.0 million bad debts are written off in the quarter. Credit cards in Singapore 2017-2018

In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 6,872,526 of main cardholders and 1,336,307 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2018, compares to 7,724,041 of main cardholders and 1,389,750 of supplementary cardholders as at December 2017.
This shown the number of main cardholders has decreased by 851,515 or 11.02% in 12 months period. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 53,443 or 3.85% in 12 months period.

This shown the number of main cardholders has decreased by 94,113 or 1.20% in 12 months period. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 48,839 or 3.39% in 12 months period.

Total card billings for 2017 is S$54.28 billion with rollover balance of S$5.22 billion, compares to S$49.90 billion billings with rollover balance of S$5.30 billion in 2016. Overall, the total billing increased by 8.78%, and rollover balance decreased by 1.51% compared to 0.19% decreased a year ago.

In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 7,818,154 of main cardholders and 1,438,589 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2016, compares to 8,044,900 of main cardholders and 1,490,254 of supplementary cardholders as at December 2015.
This shown the number of main cardholders has decreased by 226,746 or 2.82% in 12 months period. This decrease is inline with Singapore Government efforts to curb credit card debt in the country. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 51,665 or 3.47% in 12 months period.

Total card billings for 2016 is S$49.90 billion with rollover balance of S$5.30 billion, compares to S$47.10 billion billings with rollover balance of S$5.29 billion in 2015. In accordance to MAS credit and charge card statistics, there are 7,984,608 of main cardholders and 1,573,936 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore as at December 2013. As of December 2014, there are 8,156,466 of main cardholders and 1,554,840 of supplementary cardholders in Singapore.
This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 171,858 or 2.11% in 12 months. This slow growth reflects the effort by Singapore Government to curb credit card debt in the country. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has decreased by 19,096 or 1.21% in the same period.

Total card billings for 2013 is S$41.60 billion with rollover balance of S$5.36 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2014 is at S$44.58 billion, with rollover balance of S$5.50 billion. Overall, the total billing increased by 7.16%, and rollover balance increased by 2.61% compared to 7.41% a year ago.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2013 is S$247.8 million. In 2014 the bad debts written off has increased by 10.53% or S$26.1 million to S$273.9 million. Charge-off rate in year 2014 has increased to 5.1% from 4.8% in year 2013.

This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 140,843 or 1.80% in 12 months. This is a much slower growth compares to 13.94% a year ago, which also reflect the effort by Singapore Government to curb the worrying growth of credit card debt in the country. On the other hand, the number of supplementary cardholders has increased by 71,345 or 4.75% in the same period.

Total card billings for 2012 is S$38.42 billion with rollover balance of S$4.99 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2013 is at S$41.60 billion, with rollover balance of S$5.36 billion. Overall, the total billing increased by 8.28%, and rollover balance increased by 7.41% compared to 9.91% a year ago.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2012 is S$226.6 million. In 2013 the bad debts written off has increased by 9.36% or S$21.2 million to S$247.8 million. Charge-off rate in year 2013 is at 4.8%, similar to percentage in year 2012.

This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 959,772 or 13.94% in 12 months, about 2% faster growth than a year ago. On the other hand, the supplementary cardholders has increased by 52,309 or 3.48% in the same period.

Total card billings for 2011 is S$35.23 billion with rollover balance of S$4.54 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2012 is at S$38.42 billion, with rollover balance of S$4.99 billion. Overall, the total billing increased by 9.05%, and rollover balance increased by 9.91% compared to 13.25% a year ago.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2011 is S$186.7 million. In 2012 the bad debts written off has increased by an alarming 21.37% or S$39.9 million to S$226.6 million. Charge-off rate in year 2012 has increased to 4.8% from 4.4% in year 2011.

This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 742,123 or 12.08% in 12 months, about 1% slower growth than a year ago. On the other hand, the supplementary cardholders has increased by 71,465 or 5.18% in the same period.

Total card billings for 2010 is S$30.94 billion with rollover balance of S$4.01 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2011 is at S$35.23 billion, with rollover balance of S$4.54 billion. Overall, the total billing increased by 13.87%, and rollover balance increased by 13.25% compared to 8.11% a year ago.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2010 is S$181.9 million. In 2011 the bad debts written off has increased by 2.64% or S$4.8 million to S$186.7 million. Charge-off rate in year 2011 has decreased to 4.4% from 4.7% in year 2010.

This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 723,317 or 13.35% in 12 months, a faster rate compared to previous few years. This is inline with the recovery of global economy. On the other hand, the supplementary cardholders has increased by 94,753 or 7.38% in the same period.
At the end of June 2011, there are 6,462,254 main cardholders, an increase of 320,384 or 5.22% in 6 months period compares to 6,141,870 in December 2010. Supplementary cardholders stood at 1,400,882 at the end of June 2011, an increase 22,065 or 1.6% compares to 6 months ago.
At the end of of October 2011, there are 6,765,772 main cardholders, an increase of 623,902 or 10.16% in 10 months period compares December 2010. Supplementary cardholders stood at 1,435,325 at the end of October 2011, an increase 56,508 or 4.1% compares to 10 months ago.

Total card billings for 2009 is S$26.03 billion with rollover balance of S$3.70 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2010 is at S$30.94 billion, with rollover balance of S$4.0 billion. Overall, the total billing increased significantly by 18.86%, and rollover balance increased by 8.11%.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2009 is S$183.9 million. In 2010 the bad debts written off has decreased by 1.09% or S$2.0 million to S$181.9 million. Charge-off rate in year 2010 decreased to 4.6% from 5.2% in year 2009.

This shown the number of main cardholders has jumped by 363,166 or 7.18% in 12 months, a slower rate compared to previous few years. This is expected due to global financial crisis where card issuers are more prudent and many old accounts are closed. On the other hand, the supplementary cardholders has increased by 61,668 or 5.04% in the same period. As of October 2010, there are 6,022,786 main cardholders and 1,369,820 supplementary cardholders.

Total card billings for 2008 is S$25.66 billion with rollover balance of S$3.38 billion. Whereas the total card billings for 2009 is at S$26.03 billion, with rollover balance of S$3.70 billion. Overall, the total billing increased marginally by 1.44%, and rollover balance increased by 9.47%.
Bad debts written off for Singapore credit and charge card in 2008 is S$115.4 million. In 2009 the bad debts written off increased by a whopping 59.36% or S$68.5 million to S$183.9 million. This is the effect of global financial crisis which hit hard on the employment sector and the economy in 2009.
